Supplement containing concentrated iodine. In marine aquariums, iodine is crucial for the overall functioning of cells and the transfer of nutrients between them. Iodine is constantly consumed by the tank's inhabitants; therefore, without supplementation, its level drops rapidly. Corals use iodine to synthesize pigments that allow them to adapt to varying lighting conditions and protect their delicate coral tissues from UV rays. Iodum intensifies the dark blue and violet coloration of hard corals. An appropriate iodine level in the saltwater tank promotes molting in shrimp. Regular iodine dosing helps maintain the iodine level at the same level as in natural seawater.
