Blyxa japonica grows naturally in South and Southeast Asia in ponds, marshes and slow-moving, nutrient-rich rivers.
Thanks to the aquariums of the late Takashi Amano, the plant became famous in the 1990s.
Blyxa resembles very flexible grass that sways in the water current of the aquarium. It provides a dynamic look compared to other, more robust plants.
