Colisa and Gouramis:
All species of Colisa and Gouramis live in Southeast Asia and are true survivalists. Even in very warm, oxygen-poor waters, they can survive thanks to their labyrinth organ, a respiratory system that allows them to absorb atmospheric air. They prefer heavily planted aquariums with some floating plants where they can build their nests. They care for their young, and for most species, breeding is easy. Adding JBL Tropol transforms your tap water into water similar to the tropical waters these fish know from their native habitat. They then display the full splendor of their colors! Their large mouths hint at their feeding habits: they eat anything that falls to the surface of the water. In the water, they are not picky. Small crabs, plankton—they eat anything they find. But finding them is sometimes difficult: the waters are often very murky, and they must probe for food with their "filaments" (elongated ventral fins). Over the years, some very beautiful varieties have been created from wild forms. These are now often preferred to the natural form.
Probiotics / Prebiotics:
Probiotics contain cultures of live bacteria that are beneficial to health, but only when consumed in large quantities. These foods, including probiotic fish food, can easily spoil and produce the opposite effect. Their positive health effects are controversial. Prebiotics are "substrates selectively used by host microorganisms that produce a health benefit." Scientists generally agree that they promote digestion and therefore health. For our fish, another important aspect is better digestion: less waste, resulting in cleaner water and fewer algae problems. The water stays cleaner.
