Goldfish – the most popular ornamental fish of all!
Around 1,000 years ago, Chinese breeders selected the beautiful colors of crucian carp (a cold-water fish) to create the goldfish and even gave it its own scientific name (Carassius auratus). Goldfish and related farmed varieties do not have a stomach and are omnivorous. They can develop a large appetite for aquatic plants. JBL PRONOVO RED INSECT goldfish food contains a high proportion of plant-based ingredients that reduce this appetite. Insects and insect larvae make up another important part of their diet. JBL has also taken this into account in JBL PRONOVO by adding black soldier fly larvae.
Why a special goldfish food?
Goldfish are descended from crucian carp, which are native to cold waters. In a cold environment, their metabolism slows down, so their staple food needs to have a lower protein content than food for tropical ornamental fish. Furthermore, goldfish love plant-based foods. Goldfish enthusiasts will notice this at the latest when their fish have once again devoured all their plants. JBL PRONOVO RED goldfish food therefore contains a high proportion of vegetables. This often reduces the fish's appetite for plants, but not always…
Probiotic or prebiotic? Prebiotics and probiotics are "substrates selectively used by host microorganisms that produce a health benefit." Scientists agree that they promote digestion and therefore health. In our fish, another important aspect comes into play: thanks to improved digestion, there is less waste, resulting in less water pollution and reducing algae problems. The water stays cleaner.
