The original sera siporax Professional is suitable for use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, as well as ponds. Regardless of the filter type (internal, external, or trickle), it maximizes the surface area available for biological cleaning, providing the optimal substrate for colonization by essential filter bacteria. The sera filter biostart, included in the kit, contains cleaning bacteria that, immediately after application, biologically activate the sera siporax Professional and begin the breakdown of harmful substances in the water.
In nature, filtration and decomposition processes play a fundamental role. Organic waste is transformed by microorganisms, making it available again in the natural cycle as nutrients for aquatic plants – harmful substances such as ammonium, nitrites, and nitrates are removed. Since the amount of waste generated in nature is small compared to the amount of water, the substrate surface is sufficient to support a large number of microorganisms.
However, an aquarium contains a small biotope in a limited space. To ensure the complete and safe decomposition of organic waste, it is therefore necessary to maximize the surface area for colonization.

Because it is an interconnected system, water circulates continuously around the bacteria, allowing them to decompose harmful substances with maximum efficiency. Furthermore, the unique pore structure enables self-cleaning of the substrate, thus reducing filter maintenance intervals.
In combination with specialized bacteria, sera siporax also allows for a variety of special applications, such as algae prevention or targeted water conditioning.
