This product is particularly useful for reef aquariums that report a copper concentration of 15 ppb or higher. This is considered the maximum limit for corals. Above 15 ppb, corals may begin to bleach, and polyp growth will be limited.

Common sources of copper in reef aquariums include a faulty pump, broken wiring, biogranules, or tap water that isn't properly filtered by the reverse osmosis system. To use the product, first remove the carbon from your system, keep the protein skimmer running, and run the detox program for 3 days. During this phase, the aquarium water will remain brownish due to the organic matter present in the DETOX product. This is safe for corals.

The brown color will disappear along with the heavy metals bound to it. This is the only product on the market that we know of that removes copper to levels undetectable by the Triton test. Consult your Triton ICP-OES test results for dosage requirements specific to your aquarium.
