"Araguaia" is a river in Brazil, which gave its name to this stem plant. However, many of its characteristics seem to indicate that it is Hygrophila lancea from Japan and Hong Kong.
The stem reaches 10 to 20 cm in height and 6 to 15 cm in width. It has a compact habit with dense foliage and a natural tendency to branch. Pruning the stems will help maintain its bushy shape. The colors range from saffron red to violet-red and will develop beautifully under optimal conditions. The growth rate is moderate compared to other Hygrophila species.
