Proserpinaca palustris 'Cuba' is a stem plant that reaches 10 to 40 cm in height, with a stem width between 5 and 10 cm. 

It is grown in a closed cup and sold with toothed leaves that develop a characteristic long, needle-like shape in the aquarium. Under good lighting, it takes on a magnificent coppery color and its appearance creates a beautiful contrast with the other plants in the aquarium. 

Proserpinaca palustris takes on many forms depending on the region from which it originates. The variety cultivated by Tropica is native to Isla de la Juventud near Cuba. In the United States, it is commonly called "mermaid weed.".
