Calcium is necessary for plants and in animal diet, because it is an essential constituent of bones, shells and plant structures. In seawater, in order to ensure optimal growth, invertebrates (corals, shells, etc.) and limestone algae need a sufficient calcium content. The natural calcium content in sea water is 400-420 mg/l.
The HI758 mini-photometer is specially dedicated to the measurement of calcium in seawater. Its extended range allows it between 200 and 600 mg/l.
