Goldfish – the most popular ornamental fish of all! Around 1000 years ago, Chinese breeders created a beautifully colored fish from common crucian carp (cold-water fish) and even gave it a scientific name (Carassius auratus). Around 1900, the Japanese created the Shubunkin variety through crossbreeding. Goldfish and related captive-bred varieties, such as Veiltail, Shubunkin, Comet, Oranda, Lionhead, Red Cap, and others, do not have a stomach. Omnivorous, they can develop a strong appetite for aquatic plants. Unlike common goldfish, captive-bred varieties are often more or less restricted in their movements. Therefore, their food consumption is somewhat slower. JBL's PRONOVO RED INSECT goldfish food is an ideal complement to JBL PRONOVO FANTAIL and contains a high proportion of plant-based ingredients that reduce the appetite for aquatic plants. In addition to plants, insects and insect larvae make up an important part of their diet. JBL has also taken this into account in PRONOVO, adding black soldier fly larvae.
Probiotic or prebiotic?
Prebiotics are "substrates selectively used by host microorganisms that produce a health benefit." Scientists agree that they promote digestion and therefore health. In our fish, another important aspect comes into play: thanks to improved digestion, there is less waste, and therefore less water pollution, which reduces the occurrence of algae problems. The water stays cleaner.
Flakes or pellets?
Honestly, it's a matter of principle! There are few arguments for or against. With an automatic pet feeder, like the JBL AutoFood, you'll almost certainly have to use pellets, as nearly all feeders are designed for them.
