Axolotls are amphibians, like newts and frogs. Unlike other amphibians, they remain in their larval stage throughout their lives, with external gills shaped like brooms. Axolotls originally lived in a high-altitude lake in Mexico, whose cold waters reached a maximum temperature of around 20°C. Today, Mexico City has expanded so much that the lake is now located within the city limits. Its waters are so polluted by the influx of waste and other impurities that it no longer contains many living organisms. The axolotl is therefore considered extinct in its original habitat.

Axolotls use their sense of smell to find food and perceive stimuli from water currents and vibrations, much like fish with their lateral line. Live food with an "interesting" scent, such as JBL PRONOVO LOTL, is therefore ideal for a suitable diet for this species. In the wild, they stalk their prey and eat crustaceans, insect larvae, small fish, and even small members of their own species.
