In the East African Lakes (Malawi and Tanganyika), many cichlids have specialized in the consumption of the Algual carpet (Daufwuchs) and its animalcules. For these species, JBL created the JBL Pronovo Malawi.
Almost all the other species of the two lakes are predators and eat fish, animalcules, shrimps and fry. Some even eat the scales of other fish (Plecodus). For the predators of the two lakes, JBL created the JBL Pronovo Tanganyika. If the two groups are kept together in the same aquarium, there are imperatively two varieties of food. Each type of nutrition will thus obtain the food adapted to it.

Typical predators of Lake Tanganyika: lamprologus, neolamprologus, julidochromis, cyphotilapia, telmatochromis, calinochromis. Typical predators of Lake Malawi: Trematocranus, Haplochromis, Nimbochromis, Sciaenochromis, Labidochromis.

The advantages of JBL food:
- Use of pure fish proteins, inexpensive fish flour,
- ideal protein/lipid proportion,
- essentially aquatic animal proteins,
- reduction in seaweed and optimal fish growth thanks to an appropriate phosphate content.
Prebiotic: prebiotics are "
substrates selectively used by host microorganisms and which produce a health benefit". Here, scientists agree that they promote digestion and therefore health. In our fish, another important aspect is added to it: thanks to better digestion, the droppings are less important and therefore the water is less polluted, which reduces the appearance of algae problems. The water remains cleaner.
The majority of cichlids of Lake Tanganyika are predators, the food for these species has been called Pronovo Tanganyika. The species of Lake Malawi being mainly grazers of algae, this food is called Pronovo Malawi.
