Calcium Automat.
In 1989, TUNZE® Aquarientechnik developed the first calcium reactor with carbonic acid-based granule dissolution. In this innovative design, CO2-enriched water is pumped through a calcium carbonate substrate. The carbon dioxide reacts with the water to form carbonic acid, which in turn dissolves the calcium carbonate. This carbonate-enriched water then exits the reactor circuit. The new generation of devices consists of three models:
Calcium Automat 3170 for aquariums from 150 to 500 liters, specifically designed for internal use within the aquarium (a rare feature on the market) but also for under-aquarium filtration, even with very low water levels.
Calcium Automat 3171 is designed for under-aquarium installations and for aquariums up to 1,200 liters, with a granule capacity of 1.85 liters.
The Calcium Automat 3172 for under-aquarium filtration is suitable for larger setups, well over 2,000 liters, depending on the coral density. Its granular capacity is 10 liters, and it boasts a particularly high efficiency.
All models feature a feed water intake system, greatly simplifying setup. The water flow rate is adjusted before it enters the granules, ensuring a very consistent flow over time. All units have a recirculation system for undissolved gases and require minimal CO2 for operation. Models 3171 and 3172 utilize a large lid and have a special connection for integrating a pH probe (optional for the 3170).
