Matrixcarbon ™ is a truly unique active carbon. It is formed as a spherical pearl for optimal hydrodynamics, and will not settle. It allows maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous bonding sites. Matrixcarbon ™ has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimum impact on the pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise the pH above 7.0. Although all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false declarations of the contrary, Matrixcarbon ™ has the lowest content of lesixviable phosphate detectable from all major carbon brands tested. Matrixcarbon ™ surpasses other high -quality carbons of at least twice compared to the total capacity for eliminating organic matter of the aquarium, the adsorption rate and the duration of use.

While carbon is generally considered a chemical filter, this is not exactly true. It is in fact also a mechanical filter, but it is capable of filter mechanically only objects of molecular size. It works through extremely small cracks and crevices, called macropores and micropores. Micropore carbon mainly eliminates smaller metals and ions (such as trace elements) and are best suited to air filtration, while macropore carbon mainly eliminates larger organic molecules (such as nitrogen waste) and are best suited to water filtration.

The ingredients from which a carbon is made determine whether it will be macro or microporous. Carbons made from coconuts and other organic products form microprous carbon, while carbon made from bituminous coal form macropore carbon. Matrixcarbon ™ is a macropore carbon based on bituminous coal. It is the only spherical carbon on the market, allowing maximum water flow. It is sized to allow a complete penetration of the water, but not small enough to escape filter bags. All carbons contain phosphate. However, this phosphate does not come from carbon washing with phosphoric acid. Most carbon are washed with sulfuric acid. Phosphate is contained in the ashes of the carbon source. The main goal of acid washing is to eliminate ashes. Due to the hydrodynamic properties of Matrixcarbon ™, more ashes are washed from our carbon than any other. Consequently, it has the lowest lesix phosphate on the market.
